Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Monday she would develop Lahore on the lines of the Japanese city of Yokohama.

Addressing the Pakistani community in Yokohama, Maryam congratulated the community members over Pakistan’s victory in the war against India. She said that Pakistan had achieved a great victory in the fight for justice. She said that passion of the Pakistanis living in Yokohama made her feel she was holding a rally in Lahore.

Referring to the former government of the now jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, Maryam said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) damaged Pakistan’s relations with friendly countries. She said that Imran Khan took the country to the brink of a default and then the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government saved the country.

The Punjab chief minister said that a record increase in remittances was a manifestation of overseas Pakistanis’ trust in the government. She said that patients from other provinces come to Punjab for treatment due to good hospitals in the province. Punjab will soon reach the level of Japan in development, she added.

Maryam said that her party has brought the inflation down to 3-4 percent from 38 percent. “Our government has ended the loadshedding of electricity from the country,” she said. She said that free medicines were being provided to people in Pakistani. She said that overseas Pakistanis too have a role in strengthening the economy. She said that steps had been taken to curb smog in Punjab. “We are working to improve the air quality index across the province,” Maryam added.
