Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday said that the country is “running well” and progressing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif," 24NewsHD TV reported.
Speaking to journalists in London, he dismissed speculation about the need for a 27th constitutional amendment, adding that there was no need for a 27th constitutional amendment.
Dar further remarked, “There is no need for a 27th amendment; we are still trying to digest the 26th. The country is running smoothly, the economy has stabilized, and significant improvements have already been achieved under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership.”
“We are putting our full attention towards GDP growth and development. Under [Prime Minister] Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, all efforts are being made.”
Dar added that under the leadership of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in 2017, Pakistan was “the 24th-biggest economy” and added that the government was working to bring the economy back to that point.
“We are headed that way very quickly, and we are getting ready to become part of the G20,” Dar said.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office confirmed that Dar also met with UK Minister Hamish Falconer in London, where the two leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations.
The discussions focused on strengthening political, economic, and people-to-people ties, while also covering regional and global issues of shared concern.
According to the Foreign Office, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation and highlighted the importance of a fair and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
Dar also briefed the British leadership on Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, reiterating the government’s determination to bring about stability and growth. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in South Asia, underlining the role of regional cooperation.
Both parties stressed the need to maintain high-level engagements and agreed to explore new avenues of strategic collaboration, further consolidating Pakistan-UK relations.
