Ishaq Dar reviews gas supply for fertilizer sector

A high-level committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday reviewed matters related to gas supply to the fertilizer sector and long-term urea production, according to a spokesperson for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

The meeting discussed the continuity of existing gas supplies to fertilizer plants and explored options for future securitization to ensure uninterrupted production.

Participants emphasized the need to guarantee the sustainable availability of fertilizer at reasonable prices for farmers.

The committee also issued instructions to strengthen the fertilizer supply chain and bring stability to prices, with the aim of supporting the agriculture sector and safeguarding food security.

Federal ministers for energy, petroleum, national food security, economic affairs and climate change attended the meeting. The chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), secretaries and other senior officials were also present.

According to the spokesperson, the committee will compile its recommendations and submit them to the prime minister for consideration.
