The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore indicted Sara Khan for falsely claiming to be the mother of a college student allegedly assaulted, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
During the hearing, ATC Judge Arshad Javed framed charges against Sara Khan, who was brought from jail.
She pleaded not guilty, after which the court summoned witnesses for testimony and adjourned the proceedings until February 22.
According to the prosecution, Sarah Khan created a fake video pretending to be the victim’s mother to gain social media views.
The Gulberg Police Station registered a case against her, stating that her false claims led to protests and unrest at the private college.
Sara Khan was arrested in Karachi on October 22 and transferred to Lahore, where a case was registered against her at Gulberg Police Station under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including sedition (124-A), defamation (500, 499), and public mischief (505).
The controversy erupted when a viral video surfaced in which Sara Khan falsely claimed to be the mother of the victim. The misinformation led to violent student protests at a private college in Lahore on October 14, resulting in clashes with police and 27 injuries.
The Punjab Home Department formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the spread of false information. Officials later confirmed that the student had suffered a back injury due to a fall at home, refuting assault claims.
Sara Khan pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court has summoned witnesses for testimony on February 22.
