The recruitment of employees in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on fake degrees has come to light, prompting an official investigation led by the Vice Chancellor of Peshawar University.

Vice Chancellor Peshawar University met with Speaker KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati in the Speaker’s Chamber to discuss the matter. The meeting was also attended by Special Secretary for Administration Syed Waqar Shah, MPA Nisar Baz, officials from the university’s examination department, and senior officers from the Assembly Secretariat’s administrative branch.

The primary objective of the investigation is to scrutinize the educational certificates, degrees, and detailed mark certificates (DMCs) of the Assembly Secretariat employees to identify any fake or suspicious documents. This initiative aims to ensure that only qualified, capable, and legitimate candidates hold positions within the Assembly Secretariat, thereby improving administrative efficiency and integrity.

Speaker Babar Saleem Swati emphasized that as a legislative body, the KP Assembly must set an example for other institutions. He acknowledged that the Assembly operated without a formal act for decades, leading to various irregularities. However, a newly approved act has now been introduced to address these issues, with significant contributions from Assembly members and officials.

While acknowledging the challenges in completely eliminating corruption, the Speaker stressed that substantial reductions are possible. He reiterated that the verification of educational credentials is a key step toward ensuring transparency in the recruitment process. The credentials have been handed over to the university officials for scrutiny, with an Admin Section officer deputed to oversee the process and ensure maximum transparency.

Speaker Swati further directed that the verification process be completed swiftly, ensuring that only honest, qualified, and educated individuals serve in the KP Assembly Secretariat. This effort is expected to enhance administrative affairs and establish a transparent and credible system within the institution.
