As a new generation steps into Hogwarts, Daniel Radcliffe is asking fans to give them space to create magic on their own terms.
More than two decades after he first picked up a wand, Daniel Radcliffe is speaking out about the upcoming Harry Potter reboot and his message is clear let the new kids breathe.
The actor, who famously portrayed the boy wizard in the original Harry Potter franchise, admitted he doesn’t want to be a weird spectral phantom hovering over the young cast’s experience. Instead, he hopes fans will resist the urge to constantly compare the newcomers to the original trio.
Stepping into the iconic role this time is Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. With such beloved characters comes inevitable scrutiny, something Radcliffe understands better than anyone.
In a recent interview, he even went as far as saying Dominic will likely be “Better than me,” encouraging audiences to view the series as a new thing, a different thing.
For Radcliffe, fame at a young age can be overwhelming, but he believes growing up within it can sometimes make the experience feel more natural as long as the pressure from the outside is kept in check.
He also addressed the public narrative about protecting child actors. According to him, one of the simplest ways to do that is by not constantly bringing up the original cast in conversations with them.
“If you mean that, one of the things people can do is not ask about us,” he explained. Beyond advice about fame, Radcliffe shared a personal reflection on his own journey. Looking back, he says he now views his early performances with more kindness and far less embarrassment.
He also highlighted that it wasn’t necessarily the legendary co-stars who shaped his upbringing on set, but the crew members, many of whom remain his close friends today.
The HBO adaptation boasts a fresh ensemble cast. Janet McTeer will take on Professor McGonagall, while Paapa Essiedu steps into the complex role of Severus Snape, previously immortalized by Alan Rickman.
Meanwhile, comedian Nick Frost is set to play Hagrid, and filming has already resumed at Ashridge Estate, a location previously used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
