Afghanistan registered a comprehensive 138-run victory over the West Indies in the 11th match of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 262-6 in 50 overs, led by Osman Sadat (88) and Mahboob Khan (86), who shared a crucial 77-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
West Indies’ Jakeem Pollard took three wickets, but the total proved too formidable.
Chasing 263, the West Indies collapsed under pressure, bowled out for 124 in 33.2 overs.
Spinner Wahidullah Zadran struck early, reducing the top-order to 21-3.
Jewel Andrew offered resistance with 56 off 70 balls, but Afghanistan bowlers Nooristani Omarzai (4 wickets), Zadran, and Khatir Stanikzai shared six wickets to finish the innings emphatically.
Elsewhere in the tournament, England secured an eight-wicket win over hosts Zimbabwe, chasing 209 with ease in 28 overs.
Skipper Thomas Rew (86)* and Ben Mayes (77)* starred, while Manny Lumsden picked up four wickets for England.
Zimbabwe’s top scorer was Simbarashe Mudzengerere (45).
Meanwhile, the Group B fixture between the USA and New Zealand was washed out due to rain.
USA had managed 253-9, powered by Nitish Sudini’s unbeaten 117.
New Zealand began their reply but could only make 12 runs in one over before play was halted and the match called off.
