Federal Minister for Power Division Awais Leghari has said that NEPRA report should have published in August 2025 and with incomplete data, the report created misconception about power sector performance, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Awais Leghari said information about a reduction of Rs 780 billion in NEPRA's circular debt is incorrect. Federal Minister for Power said the reduction of Rs 780 billion in circular debt includes losses of Rs 193 billion by DISCOs.
He said there has been no increase in circular debt. Minister for Power said for the first time, a significant decrease was seen last year. Minister for Power said the circular debt has come down from Rs 2.4 trillion to Rs 1.6 trillion.
He said 6-year plan to completely eliminate circular debt is underway. Federal Minister for Power said it was surprising that NEPRA does not see an increase in collections compared to the previous year. He said during the financial year 2025, the collections of DISCOS (increased from 92.4% to 96.6%. He said there has been a continuous improvement in the first six months of 2026 (July to December).
Federal Minister said there has been an increase of Rs 43 billion in collections compared to the same period last year. He said that an effective mechanism has been implemented for collections from government departments. The verified bills are being recovered at the rate of 25% through the Federal Adjuster.
