The parents of Humaira Asghar are facing public wrath after their fresh TV interview aired, in which they appeared ‘cold and detached’ while speaking about the death of their daughter, whose decomposed body was discovered in her Karachi apartment 8-10 months after her passing.
The mystery surrounding her death has only deepened with the behaviour of her family, especially her parents, whose ‘unemotional tone and conflicting statements’ have left the people disturbed.
As a local channel aired the latest interview of the mother and father of the deceased, netizens bombarded them with blame for being involved in the killing.
"That's the face of a wicked, vile, and ruthless father," said a user, Zarmeena Ikram.
A citizen filed a petition seeking registration of a case against them, and the court sought a police investigation a couple of days ago.
One comment read: "First, they disowned her body, saying ‘we have nothing to do with Humaira.’ After 3 days of media shaming, they showed up to claim it. What’s the point of cleaning their image now?”
Another said: "The aunty [Humaira’s mother] can’t even act properly.”
According to investigators, Humaira had reached out to her brother shortly before her death but received no response.
Social media users raised serious questions about how the parents remained unaware of their daughter's absence for nearly a year.
One commenter said, “They couldn’t even pretend to care. The mother was holding a tissue and acting like she had a headache; it was clearly staged.”
Another added: "This is so strange!! If there was no issue, then how come no one contacted her for 10 months, not even during two Eids and Ramazan? You don’t need a visa to go to Karachi. Just one visit could’ve saved her. Admit that you disowned her and had nothing to do with her."
Many called the interview a damage-control effort with a pack of lies. "They’re lying to the neighbours too. What kind of mother is she? Artificial interview. Someone should ask why they initially refused to claim the body, and now they’re doing all this drama," reads a comment.
"The murderer probably intended the body to be found after several months so no cause of death could be determined. It all fits," a user speculated.
While some called for prayers for the deceased, others were deeply critical: "Stop interviewing these old people. They’ve lost their daughter, yes but now they’re using lies to save face."
A few voices urged restraint, suggesting the family may be hiding shame or regret behind their awkward appearance:
