Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, met with Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Naveed Ashraf, at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on Friday.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, regional maritime security, and expanded training opportunities between the two nations’ naval forces.

According to a press release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy), Admiral Naveed Ashraf welcomed the Libyan military chief upon his arrival. Both dignitaries engaged in discussions surrounding mutual interests, the evolving regional maritime security landscape, and avenues for future collaboration. Admiral Ashraf briefed the visiting delegation on Pakistan Navy’s initiatives aimed at ensuring maritime peace and security through Regional Maritime Security Patrols. In response, Lieutenant General Haftar lauded the Pakistan Navy’s consistent efforts and expressed appreciation for its role in promoting cooperative maritime security across the region.

Reaffirming their shared commitment to defence cooperation, both sides agreed to further diversify and deepen the existing bilateral relationship. Pakistan and Libya enjoy long-standing, brotherly relations underpinned by close naval cooperation, and the Libyan military chief’s visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced strategic engagement in the maritime domain.
