Police have registered a case against a man accused of assaulting a stage actress after allegedly climbing onto the stage during a theatre performance in Sheikhupura, officials said.
According to the first information report (FIR), actress Shama Naz told police that a young man forcibly climbed onto the stage while the performance was underway and physically assaulted her.
She alleged that when her driver intervened to rescue her, the suspect also slapped him. Shama Naz further told police that the accused had pressured her to engage in inappropriate conduct and became aggressive after she refused.
Police identified the suspect as Raja Zain. A case has been registered at City A Division Police Station, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Council of the Arts took notice of the incident, referring to the actress as Shama Chaudhry in its statement, and announced the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
According to the council, the committee comprises the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director (Administration), and the Assistant Director (Fine Arts and Education).
The committee has been tasked with examining the facts of the incident, collecting evidence, identifying those responsible, and submitting its findings to the Punjab Council of the Arts within 24 hours.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety and security of performers during live stage productions, with authorities expected to review measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
