Veteran Pakistani filmmaker Syed Noor has left fans fascinated after revealing the untold story behind Shaan Shahid's iconic ghungroo dance in the blockbuster film Majajan during the unforgettable song Chhaite Boorien Ve Tabiba.
Speaking during a recent podcast, the celebrated director shared how he convinced superstar Shaan Shahid to perform the now-iconic dance sequence, which later became one of the film's most memorable moments.
Recalling the incident, Syed Noor said Shaan arrived on the set after filming an intense action sequence involving guns, stunts and car crashes. Still immersed in the mindset of playing a fearless action hero, the actor was surprised when Noor asked him to tie ghungroos to his hands and feet for the next scene.
According to Syed Noor, Shaan was taken aback and questioned the idea, saying he had just spent the day shooting action scenes and could not understand why he was now being asked to dance wearing ghungroos.
Despite the explanation, Shaan remained hesitant. Syed Noor revealed that the actor stepped outside for a short break, where some people around him warned that performing such a dance could damage his image as Pakistan's leading action hero.
They believed audiences might not accept seeing him in such a different role.
However, Syed Noor stood firmly by his vision. He urged Shaan to trust him, assuring the actor that the performance would be remembered for its beauty and would become one of the film's defining moments rather than affect his image.
The director further shared that the sequence was inspired by the spiritual legacy of the renowned Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah.
He explained that the dance symbolized humility, devotion, and surrender, drawing inspiration from the famous account in which Bulleh Shah wore ghungroos and danced to seek forgiveness from his spiritual mentor.
By connecting the scene to this powerful Sufi tradition, Noor wanted the performance to carry emotional and spiritual depth rather than serve as simple entertainment.
Trusting his director's vision, Shaan agreed to perform the sequence. Dressed in a spiritual costume and wearing the ghungroos, he delivered a performance that later became one of the most celebrated moments in Majajan.
Following the film's release, "Chhaite Boorien Ve Tabiba" emerged as one of its biggest highlights and continues to be remembered as one of Pakistani cinema's most iconic musical sequences.
