Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati on Thursday, during which the two leaders discussed regional developments, the recent understanding between the United States and Iran, and preparations for an upcoming meeting of regional foreign ministers, the Foreign Office said.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, the Egyptian foreign minister congratulated Pakistan on the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran and acknowledged Islamabad's role in facilitating peace and stability efforts.
During the conversation, Abdel Ati appreciated Pakistan's contributions toward promoting regional and global peace and stability, the spokesperson said.
The two foreign ministers discussed the significance of the US-Iran understanding and described it as a positive development for regional security and the global economy.
Both leaders expressed the view that reduced tensions between Washington and Tehran could contribute to greater stability in the region and help improve economic conditions internationally.
The discussion also focused on the upcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of the Regional Four (R-4) countries, comprising Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt.
According to the Foreign Office, the next R-4 foreign ministers' meeting is scheduled to take place in El-Alamein, Egypt, in the coming days.
The R-4 framework serves as a platform for consultation and coordination among the four countries on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including political, economic and security matters.
The Foreign Office said both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and continuing consultations on regional developments and issues affecting peace and stability.
The telephone contact comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement following the US-Iran understanding and ahead of the planned gathering of foreign ministers from the four regional countries in Egypt.
