The Lahore High Court (LHC) has expressed its strong displeasure in a contempt of court petition filed against Secretary Communication and Works Department (C&W) Raja Jahangir Anwar and other officers who were not following court’s orders, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
LHC Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition of Muhammad Ishtiaq Naz and issued notices to C&W officers them for not implementing the court orders and sought their response at the next hearing.
The LHC also ordered the immediate return of the security to the petitioner. Earlier, the petitioner told the court that that despite court orders, the refundable security amount was not being returned, which clearly falls under the category of disobedience of court orders.
The petition stated that more than Rs 68.3 million was deposited as security deposit to get the contract for the judicial complex. However, later the tender committee first awarded the contract and then cancelled it. After the cancellation, not only the contract was terminated but the deposited security deposit was also confiscated. According to the petitioner, he had challenged the confiscation of the security deposit in the Lahore High Court, where his petition was accepted and an order was issued to return the money. However, despite the court’s decision, the money has not been returned yet.
Taking strict notice of this situation, the LHC Judge issued notices to Secretary C&W Raja Jahangir Anwar, Chief Engineer Syed Arshad Raza, Superintending Engineer Imran Ali and Exec Amjad Khan and directed them to submit their response at the next hearing. The court ordered the petitioner to return the seized bail money and adjourned the hearing.
