Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he was not in favour of Governor Rule in Sindh, stating he would present his point of view in the light of past experiences to Prime Minister Imran Khan during a meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) political committee to be held on Friday (today), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a statement issued on Friday, the foreign minister said that every parliamentarian was an elected representative of dignified people, and he was bound to vote in the no-confidence motion according to his conscience.
“But before making any decision, all parliamentarians must keep in mind the expectations of the people of their constituencies,” he pointed out.
“What is happening in Sindh House is against the spirit of the Charter of Democracy,” he said and added the politics of 1990s was being repeated that day.
“The Charter of Democracy was signed against this very type of politics in which certain principles were agreed upon, but, the custodians of the parliament themselves are damaging the parliament today,” he deplored.
“The house has caught fire from its own lamp,” he pointed out.
“It’s a great honour for Pakistan to host the 48th session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on March 22 and 23 in Islamabad,” said the foreign minister and claimed that he was busy making efforts for an OIC session in Islamabad for a long period of time.
“We have achieved two major successes in the 47th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Niamey, Niger,” he claimed and added: “One achievement was that we convinced that the next meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers will be hosted by Pakistan.”
The foreign minister said that the second achievement was the adoption of a unanimous resolution on tackling the growing trend of Islamophobia.
“We had sent the resolution to the United Nations which has been approved by the United Nations General Assembly. Glory be to God!” he said.
“Now, the foreign ministers of the OIC countries are visiting Pakistan, and they will also participate in the 75th Pakistan Day Parade,” Qureshi said and added: “India has not yet responded satisfactorily to the alleged ‘accidental missile fire’ incident.”
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the situation in Afghanistan was in front of everyone, adding that rising Russia-Ukraine tensions would further increase the oil prices. “The increase in oil prices will further burden the economy,” he stated.
“Those creating uncertainty in the country for their desire to come to power should reconsider their decision,” the foreign minister urged the opposition.
