Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan met the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan in Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Barrister Gohar said it was his first meeting with Khan after the terrorist attack on Jaffar Express and Khan condemned the attack. He said that Khan expressed his concern at the growing incidents of terrorism in Pakistan and underlined the need to root out the menace of terrorism from Pakistan with unity. He said that Khan endorsed the decision of PTI’s political committee to stay away from today’s civil-military huddle on terrorism.
Barrister Gohar quoted Khan as saying that PTI is the representative party of four provinces and it has the support of 70 percent of the Pakistanis. He said the government must release Imran Khan if it is really serious in taking appropriate action against terrorism in Pakistan. He also said that Khan was being denied regular meetings with his family members and party leaders.
In a related development, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja also talked to the media briefly after his meeting with the party founder. He quoted Imran Khan as saying that he and his wife were being kept in jail and this move was unprecedented. He said Imran Khan reiterated that he would not surrender; he would fight fascism. He said Khan was of the view that he would continue to fight for the sake of democracy and supremacy of law in Pakistan.
PTI leader Barrister Ali Zafar said Imran Khan is of the view that the war against terrorism will continue and this menace must be eradicated from Pakistan. He said the government cannot find a solution to the terrorism problem without taking Imran Khan onboard because is leading Pakistan’s largest political party. He said that today’s meeting on national security is worthless without Imran Khan’s participation. He said it was strange that PTI leaders were not even being allowed to meet Imran Khan. He said the PTI does not accept any such security briefing.
