In line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s jail reforms programme, an intra-regional volleyball tournament was held in Central Jail, Lahore, which was won by the Rawalpindi region by defeating the Lahore region, the 24NewsHD channel reported on Sunday.
A spokesman for Punjab prisons said that healthy activities will play a vital role in helping inmates leave prison and return to normal life.
The tournament began on April 18 and concluded on May 17, 2025. Rana Manan Khan, chairperson of the chief minister’s task force on jail reforms, was the chief guest at the occasion.
All matches were held in Central Jail, Lahore. The Sahiwal region achieved third position in the tournament.
Player of the Rawalpindi region, Aqeel, was declared Man of the Tournament, while Wajid Hussain was declared the winner of the Man of the Match award.
The victorious teams were awarded cash prizes and a trophy. All the inmates of Punjab prisons participated in the tournament.
During the first phase, a team from every region participated in the tournament, while during the second phase, teams from other regions took part in the volleyball tournament.
On the directives of Secretary Interior of Punjab, these indoor sports events were held. These sports activities provide a healthy atmosphere for inmates.
After the conclusion of sports events, skilled people's sports events will be held. The inmates, instead of focusing on negative trends, will participate in healthy activities.
The Punjab Prisons spokesman said that the motive behind these events is “hate crime, not criminal,’ and continues efforts for inmate welfare.
Inspector-General Punjab Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir, DIG Headquarters Malik Salik Jalal, and DIG Lahore Region Naveed Rauf were also present on the occasion.
