Tribal chief among 3 killed in Wana Bazaar bomb blast

Three people including a tribal chief were killed and as many were injured when a bomb ripped through the Wana Bazaar in South Waziristan on Monday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to police sources, IED caused the bomb explosion and the target was tribal chief of Ahmadzai Wazir tribe Sardar Malik Tariq.

A heavy contingent of the police arrived at the blast site and cordoned off the area.

They also launched a search operation to hunt down the culprits.

According to district police chief Mohammad Tahir, an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated to target the vehicle of the head of the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe.

The assassination of the tribal leader strikes at the heart of the local community, as the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe makes up more than 60% of the population in the immediate region.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly market bombing, the region has long been plagued by militant violence.
