Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and MNA Shehla Raza has said that a crucial decision regarding Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is expected on October 22 during a meeting of the Federal Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
Speaking to the media at the KHA Sports Complex, Shehla Raza, who is also part of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Sports, said that the committee has accepted all objections raised against the PHF’s current administration.
She alleged that Tariq Bugti, who called himself the president of the federation, was a nominated candidate but failed to conduct elections as required.
Instead, he exceeded his authority and illegally got himself re-elected even after the expiry of his term.
Raza added that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had been in a state of confusion regarding the PHF’s affairs, but the National Assembly’s Standing Committee has now endorsed the committee’s stance.
She emphasized that it was the government’s responsibility to audit the PKR 130 million recently granted to the federation, along with the PKR 1.5 billion disbursed earlier, to ensure transparency in fund utilization.
Shehla Raza reiterated that the formation of an election commission for new PHF elections would be a turning point for Pakistan hockey, asserting that all self-proclaimed office bearers must step down to restore credibility to the sport’s governing body.
