WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to mention contacts in their status updates.
The feature is currently being tested in the latest beta version 2.24.20.3 and is available to select beta testers through the Google Play Beta Program.
This feature enables users to mention specific contacts by using a button in the caption bar.
When a contact is mentioned, they receive a private notification that can only be seen by them.
Even if the contact has privacy settings that exclude them from viewing other status updates, they will still be able to see the status in which they are mentioned.
The mentioned contacts can also share the status update with their audience through a new reshare button.
However, the original creator’s identity remains private and viewers of the reshared status will not be able to contact the original creator.
