Jameel Ahmed made new SBP governor

The government has appointed Jameel Ahmed the governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for a period of five years, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. 

Jameel is already serving as the SBP deputy governor. 

In this connection, the notification was issued on Friday. 

Jameel, who has had a 30-year banking experience, has replaced Reza Baqir.

Mr Baqir got retired in May this year following completion of his three-year term as governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. 

After his retirement, deputy governor Dr Murtaza Syed acted as interim chief of State Bank of Pakistan.

Dr Baqir was appointed as governor of the SBP by the President on May 4, 2019, for a period of 3 years from the day he assumed office, which he did on May 5, 2019.
