Authorities have issued an emergency alert as the continuous torrential rains triggered flash floods and landslides in Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Naran-Kaghan valley, and Murree, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the details, the district administration in Nowshera has issued an emergency alert regarding the risk of flooding, resulting in the closure of educational institutions.
In Abbottabad and Mansehra, torrential rains triggered flash floods, causing streams to swell. A connecting bridge was washed away, while landslides in Murree and Thandiani remain a looming threat.
Meanwhile, in Punjab’s Kasur district, a low-level flood in the Sutlej River has severed ground links with seven villages.
Nowshera on high alert as Kabul River water rises
The district administration in Nowshera has issued an emergency alert over fears of flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the country’s upper regions.
Officials said that recent torrential rains are likely to increase the flow of water in the Kabul River and its tributaries, raising the threat of flooding.
According to the administration, water levels at Nowshera could rise significantly, putting low-lying areas at risk of being inundated.
Rains lash Abbottabad; bridge swept away in Havellian
Torrential rains continued to batter Abbottabad and its surrounding areas, causing flooding in local streams and nullahs.
In Havellian’s Tajwal area, an under-construction house collapsed due to the downpour, while the connecting bridge between Tajwal and Bagan was washed away.
Warning of landslides on Murree and Thandiani Roads
Officials have also warned of the risk of landslides along the Murree and Thandiani roads as the bad weather persists.
In Berot, heavy rains led to the collapse of a boundary wall at the Government Boys Middle School.
Flood fears in Mansehra, schools closed, landslide risk in Naran
Intermittent rainfall continued in Mansehra and surrounding areas, while Balakot, Kaghan Valley, Naran, and Shogran also witnessed heavy showers.
The downpours once again caused streams and rivers to swell, raising fears of flash floods in the region.
The district administration has advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous and landslide-prone areas.
Due to the deteriorating weather, all educational institutions in the district remained closed today.
Sutlej River flood cuts off seven villages in Kasur
In Punjab’s Kasur district, a low-level flood in the Sutlej River near the Ganda Singh area has severed ground links with seven villages.
The rising waters submerged several acres of standing crops, causing losses worth millions of rupees and leaving farmers in deep distress.
Officials confirmed that a flood wave of 65,000 cusecs is currently passing through the Sutlej at Ganda Singh, where the water level has surged to 17 feet.
With the river’s water level continuing to rise, fear and uncertainty have gripped the residents of the affected areas.
