Veteran Pakistani screenwriter and playwright Nasir Adeeb has spoken about the importance of maintaining dignity and privacy after a marriage ends and stressed that a man should not publicly discuss the reasons for divorcing his wife.

Nasir Adeeb said that a woman may go through emotional pain after a divorce and questioned the practice of publicly revealing a former wife’s personal matters. He described discussing a woman’s faults or explaining publicly why a marriage ended as a serious wrongdoing.

To explain his point, Nasir Adeeb referred to a story associated with Imam Abu Hanifa.

He said that when Imam Abu Hanifa was considering divorce, he refused to discuss his wife’s shortcomings while she was still married to him.

According to the story, when someone later asked him about her faults after the divorce, Imam Abu Hanifa reportedly replied that she was now a non-mahram woman and he therefore had no right to speak about her character.

Nasir Adeeb said the story indicated the values of faith, dignity and respect.

The writer further explained that a man who truly understands these principles would avoid publicly exposing his former wife after separation.

The discussion comes after the divorce of actress Nimra Khan and Zain Hamid. Zain has publicly confirmed that the couple separated on July 17.

Nimra and Zain had married in an intimate ceremony in June 2026, before their separation drew public attention.

Nimra Khan is a Pakistani actress and model who began her television career in 2013 and later appeared in films.

Born in Karachi, she has earned recognition for her performances in popular dramas including Uraan, Khoob Seerat, Meherbaan and Mujhe Khuda Pay Yaqeen Hai.

She also made her film debut with Blind Love in 2016.
