Despite the recent floods, economic activity in the country has continued to gain momentum, with production in major industries recording notable growth during the first four months of the current financial year, official data showed Friday.
According to figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, production of large-scale manufacturing industries increased by 5.02 per cent during July–October of the ongoing financial year. On an annual basis, industrial output rose by 8.33 per cent in October 2025, while month-on-month growth stood at 3.75 per cent compared to September 2025.
The data showed strong performance in the transport-related sectors. Vehicle production surged by 78.89 per cent during the first four months of the fiscal year, while production of transport equipment increased by 37.51 per cent during the same period.
The food group recorded a growth of 5.02 per cent from July to October. Tobacco production increased by 2.10 per cent, textiles by 1.58 per cent, and wearing apparel by 4.69 per cent, according to the report.
The statistics further indicated a 12.25 per cent increase in the production of coke and petroleum products during the four-month period. Rubber products also posted growth of 12.03 per cent.
However, the data highlighted a decline in several sectors. Production of machinery and equipment fell by 11.95 per cent during the fourth quarter, while furniture production dropped by 16.46 per cent from July to October. The pharmaceutical sector also recorded a contraction of 6.68 per cent during the same period. Chemical products production fell by 1.90 percent and iron and steel production fell by 3.25 percent.
The figures suggest that while overall industrial activity has picked up pace, growth remains uneven across sectors amid ongoing economic and environmental challenges.
