Former federal minister and senior Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Khurram Dastgir Khan has pledged to donate his corneas after death, aiming to help restore sight for blind people, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
During a visit to the ophthalmology department of Gujranwala Medical College, Khurram Dastgir also met five visually impaired patients who had lost their sight due to corneal diseases.
Under the supervision of Prof Dr Irfan Qayyum Malik, these patients successfully underwent corneal transplant surgeries that restored their vision.
Since the launch of the program at Gujranwala Medical College, 161 corneal transplant surgeries have been successfully performed under Dr Irfan’s leadership.
Expressing his commitment to this humanitarian cause, Khurram Dastgir said that by donating his corneas, he hopes others who are blind can experience the gift of sight.
He also appealed to the public to actively participate in this noble initiative.
The medical community and social circles widely appreciated this announcement.
