US President Donald Trump has strongly objected to millions of dollars in US aid to India, questioning why America is providing funds to a wealthy nation, 24NewsHD TV reported.
Speaking at a public event, Trump criticised $273 million in foreign aid, calling it a "total fraud."
He particularly questioned why the US is giving $21 million to India for voter turnout programs, arguing that India is already one of the highest tax-paying countries and has ample financial resources.
"India has a lot of money. It is among the highest tax-paying nations, and due to its high tax rates, we hardly gain anything from them," Trump remarked.
Media reports also noted that tech billionaire Elon Musk had previously pushed for cutting foreign aid to reduce government expenditures.
