Pakistan's smartphone imports increased by 29% year-on-year during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country imported mobile phones worth more than $1.747 billion between July and May, compared with $1.35 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
In local currency, the value of imported mobile phones exceeded Rs491 billion during the 11 months.
The PBS data also revealed that Pakistan imported other telecommunications equipment worth more than $394 million over the same period.
The value of these telecom imports stood at approximately Rs195 billion in local currency.
The latest figures indicated a significant increase in spending on smartphones and telecommunications equipment.
