The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has revised its policy for large commercial and industrial consumers, particularly those acquiring new connections or shifting to solar systems, 24NewsHD TV reported on Thursday.

According to a notification issued by the LESCO Director of Customer Services, Abbas Ali, the company has decided to install only one Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meter instead of two.

This means that for new connections and solar users, the installation of a backup meter is no longer mandatory. However, LESCO has also provided customers with the option to install both billing and backup meters if they wish.

The policy change translates into significant financial relief:

Consumers will save around Rs45,000 on the smart meter cost. Additionally, about Rs80,000 will be saved on AT (Automatic Transfer) box installation costs.

In total, the revised policy offers consumers a saving of Rs125,000 per connection.
