Former chief of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Brigadier (Retired) Imtiaz Ahmed, was laid to rest at H-11 graveyard in Islamabad on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, his funeral prayers were offered at the F-10 mosque, attended by close relatives, officials, and former colleagues.
Brigadier Imtiaz passed away late Wednesday night at CMH Rawalpindi, where he had been under treatment for several months.
Known for his influential roles in Pakistan’s intelligence community, Brig Imtiaz served in both ISI and IB, playing a critical part during the Afghan Jihad era under the leadership of General Akhtar Abdul Rahman and General Hameed Gul.
He was also considered a close confidant of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the latter’s first tenure in the 1990s and held key intelligence assignments during that politically intense period.
