The Safe City Authority (SCA) has begun training over 100 employees from emergency call centres and police departments to understand sign and facial language, enabling better communication with special citizens, reported 24NewsHD TV on Thursday.
Officials from the Police Department confirmed that this training not only covers sign language but also teaches staff how to recognise and interpret facial expressions and cues used by people with speech and hearing disabilities.
According to SCA representatives, this effort is part of a larger plan to make public services more inclusive and accessible. A major step includes integrating special features in the Safe City App that will allow special persons to file complaints via video call.
In case of an emergency, hearing- and speech-impaired individuals will be able to contact authorities directly through the app—an innovation that authorities have already called a milestone in accessible law enforcement.
