Telangana is set to host the 72nd Miss World pageant from May 7-31, 2025 and the state government is leveraging the global event to showcase its cultural vibrancy, historical landmarks, and tourism potential to an international audience, Indian media reports.

With over 3,000 media representatives expected to attend, the Tourism and Culture Department sees this as a golden opportunity to put Telangana’s rural beauty and traditions on the world map.

The grand opening and closing ceremonies will take place in Hyderabad, with venues like Hitex, Shilparamam, and Gachibowli Stadium under consideration.

In a bid to make history, the government is planning an Olympic-style opening ceremony.

Beyond Hyderabad, the pageant activities will extend into Telangana’s rural heartland.

Officials have planned special events to introduce contestants to the state’s traditional arts and tourism sites. As part of this initiative, participants will don handloom sarees for ramp walks and visit iconic locations such as Pochampally, Ramappa Temple, Buddhavanam, Laknavaram, Yadagirigutta, Nagarjunasagar, and Vikarabad.

Pochampally village, globally recognized for its handloom sarees and named the Best Tourism Village, will play a key role in the rural promotion campaign. Contestants will engage with local weavers to learn traditional weaving techniques before walking the ramp in Pochampally sarees, highlighting Telangana’s craftsmanship.

Additionally, the beauty queens will tour the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple and the Buddhavanam project at Nagarjunasagar, a significant site for Buddhist heritage. The state has crafted a detailed itinerary to promote these historical treasures to a global audience.

In a further push for international recognition, the Tourism Department is set to release promotional videos showcasing Warangal’s Kakatiya forts and other heritage sites, positioning Telangana as a premier cultural and tourism hub on the global stage.
