The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a new and modern curriculum for cybersecurity degree programmes, aimed at aligning academic training with evolving industry requirements.

According to officials, the curriculum has been developed for BS, MS, and associate degree programmes, incorporating contemporary fields such as cyber security, digital forensics, and cryptography as key specialisations.

The new framework has been formulated by the National Curriculum Committee under the Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 and is set to be implemented in universities across the country from 2026.

HEC officials said the updated curriculum places strong emphasis on internships and hands-on training to enhance students’ professional skills and employability in the rapidly growing digital sector.

Educational institutions will also have the flexibility to introduce additional specialised tracks based on their infrastructure and available resources, allowing universities to tailor programmes to emerging technological trends.
