Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Thursday announced considerable decrease in port charges for foreign transshipment ships, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Presiding over a meeting in Karachi, the minister said that the new concessionary package had been enforced on March 18, 2026.
He told the meeting that charges and duties on dry bulk export cargo had been reduced by 60 per cent.
He informed that base account had been increased from five per cent to 20 per cent, while a decision had been taken to give five per cent more relief on additional cargo.
Chaudhry added that special incentives had been announced for shipping lines bringing more ships.
Similarly, he went on to say, 50 per cent relief had been given to large container ships in weight charges. “Likewise, there is additional five per cent relief for the ships powered by environment friendly fuel,” the minister said, adding that the goal was to make Karachi Port less expensive gateway for foreign ships.
