As Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is in hot water after May 9 incidents of violence in which violent mobs vandalized army installations and also damaged other important buildings, more and more party’s present and past legislators as well as other leaders are quitting the party, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The latest is Jay Prakash, who while strongly condemning May 9 incidents at a press conference held in Karachi on Friday, announced he was parting ways with the party.
With tears in his eyes, Prakash dispelled the impression that he took the decision under any kind of pressure.
KP ex-minister Iqbal Wazir also quits PTI
Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Muhammad Iqbal Wazir has also announced to quit the party, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a news conference in Peshawar on Friday, Iqbal Wazir said he has parted ways with the PTI. “The May 9 incidents were horrific. My loyalty to country is beyond politics,” he added.
The former minister said PTI workers’ attacks on national institutions were unacceptable.
Balochistan minister Mubeen Khilji becomes latest to exit PTI
Mubeen Khilji, who held the post of a Balochistan minister for industries, has become the latest to jump ship and quit former prime minister Imran Khan’s party.
In a press conference, Khilji announced he is parting ways with the PTI on account of the May 9 violence. “We wanted peaceful protests,” he said, condemning the vandalism that took place in the aftermath of Imran’s arrest.
He added that he was not pressurised into taking the decision, instead elaborated that the reason behind leaving the party was the “nation’s security”.
“We cannot under any condition remain a party to the violence that took place on May 9,” Khilji added.
Khilji is the provincial minister for industries and enjoys a good reputation in the PTI. He was arrested by police from Quetta last week after unrest following Imran Khan's arrest.
