The Judicial Commission has formally approved the appointment of Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati as the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Monday.
According to the channel report, the approval was granted during a commission meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, where the names of three senior judges were deliberated for the top judicial post.
Justice Ejaz Swati, who had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice since February 14, 2025, will now permanently hold the position.
Born on June 6, 1963, in Quetta, Justice Ejaz Swati received his early education from Tameer-i-Nau Public School, completing his secondary schooling in 1978.
He later earned a Master’s degree in English from the University of Balochistan, followed by an LL.B from the University Law College, Quetta, in January 1988.
Justice Swati was enrolled as an advocate of the Balochistan High Court on November 28, 1991, and later of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on April 18, 2007.
Over the span of 22 years, he practiced in civil, criminal, and constitutional law, appearing before the High Court, Federal Shariat Court, and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, with numerous reported judgements to his name.
He also held key legal positions, including serving as a judge at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Turbat from 2002 to 2003 and later as a legal advisor to the National Bank of Pakistan starting in October 1994.
His active involvement in legal reforms was highlighted by his participation in the First Provincial Judicial Conference in 2002.
Justice Swati was elevated as an additional judge of the Balochistan High Court on August 30, 2013, and was confirmed as a permanent judge on September 2, 2015.
