Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Tuesday inaugurated the Punjab Pavilion at the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, and visited the Urban Expo to review exhibits highlighting the province’s housing initiatives.
During her visit to the pavilion, the chief minister was briefed by Zeeshan Sikandar, director general of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, on the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program.
She also conducted a live virtual tour of the project using digital devices and watched a documentary on its construction and progress.
Maryam Nawaz interacted with staff at the pavilion and shared details of Punjab’s affordable urban housing model with foreign delegates and media representatives. She also sought information about housing projects being implemented in other developing countries.
Speaking at the pavilion, the chief minister said the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program was close to her heart and aimed at providing housing loans to people without discrimination. She said 600 to 700 houses were being built daily under the project and that more than 100,000 houses had been completed within a year.
International delegates, guests and media representatives visited the Punjab Pavilion in large numbers and viewed the documentary on the housing initiative.
The pavilion drew significant attention from participants at the forum, with several delegates praising the pace and scale of the program.
