Anthony Joshua has vowed to show “no mercy” when he steps into the ring against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in their sanctioned eight-round professional fight scheduled for December 19 (today) in Miami.
The two-time unified heavyweight world champion is set to return to the ring after a long hiatus.
Joshua has not fought since his defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, a bout that left him injured and subsequently led to his removal from The Ring magazine’s top 10 rankings.
Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, had earlier suggested the British heavyweight would only return in late 2025, making the sudden announcement of a fight against Paul all the more surprising.
Reacting to the news, Joshua said he is ready to make a statement.
“Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy. I took some time out, and I’m coming back with a mega show. It’s a big opportunity for me,” he remarked.
He added that he intends to deliver massive numbers and break records upon his return.
“Whether you like it or not, I’m here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected. Mark my words, you’ll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face.”
Jake Paul, who has steadily transitioned into professional boxing, was previously scheduled to fight Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match on November 14.
However, the event was cancelled following domestic violence allegations against Davis.
