Two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire in the Sakth Road area on Wednesday, leaving PTI leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Union Council Chairman Zarkhan critically injured, police said.
A passerby was also wounded in the incident. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Rescue teams shifted the injured to Holy Family Hospital, where doctors said Zarkhan had sustained three bullet wounds. Despite his critical condition, he managed to record his statement with police.
New Town Police Station personnel reached the site soon after the attack. According to initial investigations, the incident appears to be a case of target killing. Police said evidence is being collected and further inquiries are underway.
Authorities have confirmed that two suspects were involved in the shooting.
