Fans remember Mustafa Qureshi’s late wife, Rubina Qureshi, on the occasion of her 85th birthday and cherish her work in the music industry.
Rubina was a Sindhi language folk singer. She was popularly known as the Nightingale of Sindh as she performed most of her songs in Sindhi, Urdu, Punjabi and Saraiki languages.
She was born on Oct 19, 1940 in Hyderabad with the maiden name, Aisha Sheikh.
Qureshi stepped into the industry after she auditioned for a music show on Radio Hyderabad. Following her show, she became a known name in the field of art. She obtained her master’s degree in Muslim History from Sindh University.
After tying the knot with Mustafa Qureshi, she moved to Lahore in 1970.
Mustafa Qureshi, after her demise, said tha, “She led an active life, both when it came to her social life and professional career.”
This was evident as she had sung more than 1,000 songs. She was the first woman artist who took part in strengthening Pak-China relations.
Mustafa also revealed that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had sent her to China where she sang in the Chinese language as well. She also went to Indonesia and Turkey to perform.
The Nightingale passed away in Lahore after a long battle with cancer on 13 July, 2022.
