The ICC Women’s World Cup clash between Pakistan and New Zealand was abandoned due to persistent rain at the R. Premadasa Stadium, with both teams sharing a point each.
With this result, Pakistan remained at the bottom of the points table with two points, while New Zealand moved to fifth place with four points.
This was the second rain-affected match for both sides in the tournament, New Zealand’s earlier fixture against Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s encounter with England had also been washed out.
The outcome confirmed South Africa’s qualification for the semi-finals, joining Australia, who had already secured their spot earlier.
After New Zealand won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat, Pakistan reached 92 for 5 in 25 overs before rain interrupted play for good.
Aaliya Riaz top-scored with an unbeaten 28 off 3 fours, while Muneeba Ali made 22 runs with four boundaries.
Omaima Sohail (3), Sidra Ameen (9), Natalia Pervaiz (10), and captain Fatima Sana (2) were the other contributors.
Pakistan were 52 for 3 in the 13th over when the first rain delay occurred, prompting officials to reduce the game to 46 overs per side.
Another downpour halted play again at 92 for 5 in 25 overs, after which the match was shortened to 36 overs, but further rain forced the umpires to call off the game.
Pakistan will now play their sixth and final group match against South Africa on October 21.
