Polling is currently underway for by-elections to fill 12 vacant local government seats across six districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Voting began early Sunday morning and will continue until 4 pm, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the by-elections are being held for seats reserved for women, youth, farmers, and workers in various village councils. In Dera Ismail Khan, voting is taking place for general, youth, and women’s seats in three village councils, where over 25,000 voters are registered — including 11,500 women.
Polling is also being conducted for a general seat in the village council of Sakhakot in Malakand, as well as in Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Upper Dir districts. The ECP has set up 66 polling stations and 201 polling booths across the participating districts.
Security arrangements have been tightened to ensure a peaceful voting process. According to the Election Commission, 23 polling stations have been declared sensitive, while five have been marked as highly sensitive.
The by-elections are part of ongoing efforts to fill vacant local government positions and strengthen grassroots democratic representation in the province. Results are expected to be compiled after polling concludes later today.
Moreover, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that local government elections in Punjab will be held in the last week of December 2025.
