Sonia Shamroz Khan, a senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), received the “Police Officer of the Year” award in Auckland, New Zealand, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The award was conferred on Sonia Shamroz Khan by the International Association of Women Police for best policing and great services.
Currently, Sonia Shamroz Khan is serving as the district police officer (DPO) of Battagram. She has also served as the DPO of Chitral.
She is the first Asian and second Muslim woman to receive the award. She belongs to Nawansher, Abbottabad. Her father is a former provincial minister and senior politician.
Sonia Shamroz Khan dedicated her award to the victims of gender discrimination and the hardworking women police officers, who are performing their duties against all odds.
She said that women police officers had been working hard to ensure peace, adding that she had always considered cultural values and sensitivities during her work.
