Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Friday visited the TP-1 Gutter Garden in Keamari, where he stressed the urgent need for federal attention to Karachi’s development and flood relief efforts across the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to the media, Bilawal said he hoped Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would pursue Karachi’s projects with the same “Shehbaz speed” he is known for.
“The Prime Minister’s attention is repeatedly drawn to Karachi, and I expect practical action this time,” he remarked.
Bilawal warned against politicising natural disasters, urging that flood victims be supported through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). He criticised the federal government for failing to appeal to the United Nations and international community for flood assistance.
“People in Sindh, Punjab, KP, and Gilgit-Baltistan are still suffering from the historic floods. Till today, the federation has not appealed to the world for help,” he said, adding that the situation could worsen with health crises.
On Karachi’s chronic water shortage, Bilawal highlighted the construction of the new Hub Canal, which he said had improved water supply. “We must find a collective solution to Karachi’s water problem,” he stressed.
Bilawal also hailed President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China as “very successful” and welcomed the Pak-Saudi strategic defense agreement, calling it positive for both nations. “Every Pakistani wants to protect Makkah and Madinah,” he added.
Taking a swipe at India, Bilawal accused New Delhi of dragging cricket into politics. He further claimed, “Recently, we have defeated India in the war,” without elaborating.
