Federal Minister for Health and MQM-P leader Syed Mustafa Kamal said on Saturday that the country’s system would stop functioning if new provinces were not created, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he said that the creation of new administrative units in the country had become talk of the town. “The man advocating for the creation of new units will be our hero,” he said, adding there was nothing unconstitutional to say that the country should have more than four provinces.
Declaring Makkah and Medina a red line for the Muslims, the minister said that the MQM-P leaders and workers were ready to give any sacrifice for the defence of the holy land.
He said that the MQM-P had always talked about strengthening the federation.
Kamal claimed that the people of Karachi were not given their share in jobs.
He went on to say that one wanted to know what was poverty, he should go to villages and towns in interior Sindh. “There people are deprived of basic facilities of life.”
He dispelled the impression that criticism of PPP amounted to criticism of the people of Sindh. “How on earth can we criticize Sindhis. Are all Sindhis part of the PPP?” he questioned.
Referring to the PPP, he said it was so unfortunate that whenever there was talk about corruption, the party played the card of provincialism.
Also on Saturday, while responding to Kamal’s presser, Spokesperson for the Sindh government Sadia Javed said that the PPP’s ideology was “Pakistan Khape” (Long Live Pakistan).
She asked those talking about the division of Sindh not to become champions of binding the nation together.
The 18th Amendment, she went on to say, had strengthened the federation and given to the people of all provinces their rights. “Those who demand the division of Sindh do not have knowledge of history.”
Sadia said that those who did politics of violence in the past now pretended to be sympathizers of the people of the province. “Will these people, who were once mobile phone snatchers and target killers, tell us where they were when entire families were gunned down?”
She said that the MQM-P’s history bore testimony to the fact that the party had always sowed seeds of mistrust and hate. “Now they cannot pit Sindhis against Muhajirs.”
The spokesperson was of the view that the opposition leaders had been flabbergasted by the Sindh government’s performance, and were thus making such speeches for publicity.
