The Lahore’s Superstores and Grocery Stores Association has sought the extension in government’s time for the closure of the markets from 5 to 8 PM, and threatened to shut down the stores if the district authorities did not stop its excesses.

In this regard, a delegation of the Superstores and Grocery Association called on the President Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry, informing him about the critical situation the stores have to face in the wake of the lockdown regulations announced by the Punjab government that limited the times of the shops to 5 PM.

The delegation further told the President that the lockdown rules are backfiring in the sense that it has resulted into a greater number of people turning up for purchasing simultaneously as the markets are to close after 5 PM.

“The police is now sealing our stores citing the excuse of the overcrowded customers,” the delegation said, adding that “It is only due to the shorter time span that has caused the people to accumulate at a time in the greater numbers.”

On these complaints, the President LCCI said “If Police and the district authorities do not stop its excesses, the stores will be shut as a protest.”
