Pak Navy, maritime rescue Syrian ship crew

In a proud achievement, Pakistan navy and maritime Sunday rescued the Syrian crew of a cargo ship that sank 190 nautical miles off the coast of Karachi. The ship was carrying Indian sugar and rice for Somalia.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, on receiving an alert from Maritime Mumbai, India that a cargo ship of Syria carrying Indian sugar and rice got accident due to storm in the ocean.

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) Director Operations Commander Ehsan confirmed that the Pakistan navy was informed about the sinking of a Syrian cargo ship on July 29, so they immediately launched an operation and rescued the crew members successfully.

He said the Syrian cargo ship had 18 Syrian crew members on board and 15 of whom were rescued by Pakistan. He said the crew members of the cargo ship were taken to Karachi port through the Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Aslat and the Pakistan Maritime Security Ship (PMSS) Kashmir.

The PMSS Kashmir Commanding Officer Arsalan said there was a problem with the engine of the ship and the accident occurred due to a storm in the sea.

According to the officials, all the cargo ship crew belonged to Syria who were carrying sugar and rice from India to Somalia and the first information was received by Pakistan from Maritime Mumbai.
