1,800 liters of adulterated milk disposed of in Pakpattan

A team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) raided a factory in Pakpattan on Saturday, and recovered 1,800 litres of adulterated milk, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The raiding party also confiscated the machinery used in milk production and sealed the factory, situated in the suburban village of Pakpattan, 86-D.   

Dal Waryam Police arrested two persons, including factory’s owner, and registered a case against them. 

Later, the PFA team disposed of the adulterated milk.

Earlier, in its annual performance report, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) had said the Authority had raided 423,323 food points in 2020 and sealed 9,221 of them. 

PFA Director General (DG) Rafaqat Ali Nissoana said action was taken against 2,082 food businesses under the Emergency Prohibition Order (EPO), while 10,350 samples had been collected from different food products for screening in the year under review. 

He further said that 35,618 food points were issued fines over the violation of hygiene standards and non-compliance with SOPs.

“Cases were also registered against the owners of 380 food businesses,” the DG said, and added 3,520,684 liters of adulterated milk was disposed of in 2020 while 118,786kg of blended spices were also discarded.  

Furthermore, he went on to say, during operations 242,982 people were also informed about the precautionary measures to be taken against COVID-19. 

Nissoana added that new laws would be introduced this year to meet international standards. “All possible efforts are being made so that the dream of a ‘Healthy Punjab’ could come true,” he concluded.
