Former South African opener and stylish batsman Herschelle Gibbs was appointed as the new head coach of Karachi Kings, the defending champions of Pakistan Super League (PSL), for the upcoming sixth season.

The 46-year-old Gibbs had played 23 T20Is, 248 ODIs and 90 Test for South Africa.

Former Pakistan legend and Karachi Kings president Wasim Akram served as interim head coach in the knockout stage.

Gibbs replaced Dean Jones, who died of a cardiac arrest in New Delhi, in September last year.

The 46-year-old Gibbs had played 23 T20Is, 248 ODIs and 90 Tests for South Africa. He scored 400 T20I, 8,094 ODI and 6,167 Test runs from 1996-2010.

Talking about his coaching career, Gibbs served as the head coach of the Rotterdam Rhinos for the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament.

Earlier, he also had experience coaching teams in the Shpageeza Cricket League and Kuwait’s national squad.

In November 2020, he was selected by the Colombo Kings as the head coach for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
