The 2.5 million doses of Covid-19 Moderna vaccine donated by the US have reached Islamabad airport, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Reportedly, a plane carrying a consignment of 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine shipped by the US government reached at Islamabad International Airport on Friday.

The White House press secretary Jen Psaki told the reporters during her media briefing on Monday that the US would ship 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine to Pakistan. She said the vaccine would be delivered under the UN vaccination programme COVAX.

Earlier this month, US President Joe Biden had announced to give 80 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines under the UN-initiated COVAX facility. The While House divulged the details of sharing 25 million doses with the world. But as per the directions of President Biden, the US would share 80 million vaccines globally by the end of June. But the Biden administration said that it would keep 25% in reserve for emergencies in US and for its distribution among US allies and partners.

US Chargé d'ffaires Angela P Aggeler said the US mission in Pakistan was happy that this safe and effective vaccine would be administered to the people of Pakistan.

Flight from KSA

In another development, 19 passengers who flew from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) to Karachi turned out to be Covid-19 positive on Friday. The positive people would be shifted to quarantine centres.

The corona positive passengers reached Karachi by SV 708 flight. They would be transported to the isolation centres. The Sindh government has established three quarantine centres in Karachi for positive passengers.

These 19 passengers will be shifted to different hospitals of the city including Liaquatabad Hospital and Korangi Hospital.
