Islamabad could be next coronavirus hotspot

The country’s capital could become a next ‘coronavirus hotspot’ as the confirmed positive cases tally jumped at 2893 with 304 in a single day in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) have raised alarm bells.

According to District Health Office Islamabad @DhoIslamabad tweet, “Islamabad recorded another biggest jump in the past 24 hours with 304 cases. Coronavirus cases in Islamabad soar to 2,893. #StayAlert.”

According to COVID-19.pk portal, there are 2893 confirmed positive patients and 169 have been recovered so far. There are 30 deaths reported in Islamabad.

While the incumbent District Health Officer Islamabad at Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Zaeem Zia MD said: “We are not hiding any cases be it in our own office. We are aware of the circumstances and help us fight this pandemic. We are ensuring staff presence and the surveillance teams are well equipped with PPE's. Tests are regularly run to ensure safety of staff. @nhsrcofficial.”

He also posted at @ZaeemZi that, “Yes, the DHO Office had positive cases, they have been quarantined and necessary protocols have been ensured. The area was disinfected and under use now. Staff stations have been established outside the office. We will not back off, we will continue our fight.”

Special Assistant of PM on Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said in a tweet: “Fast facts about Islamabad ref COVID-19: total number of lab confirmed cases to date are 2589, total recovered to date 496, total vents dedicated for COVID-19 = 90, currently in use for COVID-19 = 13, available but not in use 77.”
